Challenge: Understand the current user experience of a medical terminology editing software to identify opportunities for a major visual and interaction redesign.
Process: As the lead researcher, I started by conducting stakeholder interviews with the lead software developer, project manager, and owner of the company to understand project goals. The UX designer and I developed an interview guide with exploratory and task-based questions, and conducted two-hour interviews with four users from three national medical organizations. Following an iterative research and design approach, we collaborated on design recommendations, prioritizing them based on frequency and importance of key tasks.
Outcome: The client implemented our recommendations for the new release of their software, ultimately affecting medical decision-making and reporting and the quality of patient health care experiences. Additionally, we helped the client understand its users and created a user typology based on behavioral data (skill level, goals and tasks.)
My role: Client management, research design, project management, data collection and analysis, design recommendations, report and presentation.
